Taylor Swift Early life
Swift was born in the Wyomissing District of Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Scott Swift, a stockbroker, and his wife, Andrea, a homemaker. She has a younger brother, Austin. When she was in fourth grade, she won the National Poetry Competition with a three-page poem titled “Monster in My Closet.”
At the age of 10, Swift began writing songs, singing at karaoke competitions, festivals and fairs in the city. One summer she dedicated herself to writing a 350-page novel, still unpublished.
She was a member of an SNL-inspired children’s sketch comedy group, where she was a natural comedy genius.
After seeing her perform karaoke at a cast party, the mother of the producing group Kirk Kriemer suggested that Swift balance her career with country music performances rather than stage performances. Kriemer soon rented space at a local mall and began showcasing her protégé’s debut at Weeknight’s country song performances, including karaoke backing songs.
With ever-growing performances and a growing audience, she began performing at karaoke and open mic nights. The first extended showing of her was at the Bloomburg Fair, organized by Petgrett, a local artist.
Interested in writing songs
Swift began learning to play the guitar with a computer repairman who taught her how to play all three strings. She wrote her first song ‘Lucky Yu’ after learning to play three strings.
She then she started writing songs regularly and used them as a way of expressing the pain of not going to school. The reaction of other children was also bad so she also wrote songs about them.
High school job
Swift was very impressed by Shania Twain by her singing. Leanne Remus, Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, and Swift’s grandmother also influenced her.
Despite her grandmother being a professional opera singer, Taylor had always been interested in country music. From a young age, she developed an affinity for Pasti Cline and Dolly Parton. She also credits Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain for showing how much “pushing the bar” makes a difference.
At the age of 11, Swift went to Nashville for his first trip, hoping to land a record deal by sharing a demo tape of his voice, containing karaoke songs. She gave a copy to all the labels in the city. The record labels and her companions rejected Swift.
When she returned to Pennsylvania, she was admitted to the United States. At the Open Tennis Tournament, they asked her to sing her national anthem, and the audience responded well to her performance.
Swift began writing songs and playing the 12-string guitar at the age of 12. Swift went to Nashville regularly and began writing songs with local musicians. When she turned 14, her family decided to move to a suburb outside of Nashville.
When Swift turned 15, she turned down an offer from RCA Records because the company wanted to put her into a development deal.
Swift then began singing at The Blue Bird Cafe, a Nashville-based music writers hangout, where she was noticed by Scott Borchetta, who signed her to her newly formed record label, Big Machine Records.
At the age of 14, she became the youngest music writer ever to be hired by Sony / ATV Terry Publishing.
Music writing style
Swift’s lyrics are largely autobiographical, saying that “if you listen to the songs on my albums, it’s like reading my journal.” For example, the song “Forever and Always” was inspired by the relationship between her and Joey Jonas, while the song “Hey Stephen” was written about a man who started working for Swift. “Fifteen” was written about her freshman year of high school.
The girl, quiet and lonely, gives bitter hints in her songs as she faces off against cheerleaders or receives harsh payment from the boy who left her. She has also indicated that she tries to write something that her fans can relate to, saying, “I never intend to write songs that my fans can’t relate to.
Her personal songs are the ones that have caught her attention the most. Swift once said, “I thought people would find it difficult to relate to them, but it happened that the more personal my songs were, the more closely people could relate to them.”
The fact that his songs are so clearly autobiographical is what makes his fans search for them. Swift once said, “All the guys I’ve written about in my songs have been discovered by my fans on MySpace.”
